Tony Chappel was born in Swansea, Wales. Chappel was a professional snooker player from 1984 to 2001. His best ranking finish was in the 1990 Asian Open in Guangzhou, China, where he was beaten by Dennis Taylor by 5-4 in the semifinal. Earlier that year, he had qualified for the Snooker World Championship for the first and only time, losing 10-4 to Tony Knowles in the first round.
