- 1943 Len Ganley was born in Country Armagh, Northern Ireland. Ganley was a former milkman and bus driver, who eventually went on to referee the 1983, 1987, 1990 and 1993 Snooker World Championship Finals. He died on August 28, 2011.

- 1995 Stephen Hendry made his first 147 break in a World Championship match in his semifinal against Jimmy White. Hendry's maximum break was only the third in World Championship history.
