- 1985 Dennis Taylor won his only championship by defeating reigning champion Steve Davis in the final by 18-17. The last frame famously lasted 68 minutes and was decided on the final black at 12:23am on Monday, April 29.
- 1990 Stephen Hendry won his first Snooker World Championship, defeating Jimmy White 18-12 in the final. The win also completed his first Triple Crown, and he went on to win a further six World Championships and another Triple Crown.
